Turning data into action

Too many school-related indicators let you know something is wrong too late: a dip in grades, another missed day of school, a behavior referral.

With knowtifyED, you have data for early intervention and prevention.

Research shows that a neutral check in by a trusted adult can help a student re-regulate out of toxic stress so they are ready to learn. Two minutes of conversation can save hours of crisis response, risk assessment, and post-incident investigation– freeing up time for the good stuff.

The trick is knowing who you need to connect with each day. That's where knowitfyED comes in. With a few simple steps, you can ensure your teams are armed with the data they need to proactively engage and support students experiencing toxic stress.

Trauma-Informed Design to Help Schools Identify AND Respond with Care

For Schools
  • Each morning the designated, trained team for each building will receive an email, subject line: Handle With Care, and a list of student ID numbers.

  • No incident details are shared. However, we set the incident criteria to Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), so your team will know it was a significant event. Periodically, we will provide an aggregate report with the proportion of incident types that generated the notifications.

  • No! knowtifyED data should help FREE UP staff time by helping staff to connect with, engage, and re-regulate students who may be in “trauma brain.” This early intervention can help prevent escalation later in the day, which means less crisis management and risk assessment, and more time engaging proactively.

  • Think of knowtifyED as an added booster to your current Handle With Care process. By establishing secure data connections with the first responder agencies, knowtifyED increases the consistency and frequency of notifications. We absolutely encourage officers to continue to use their discretion to initiate notifications, knowtifyED operates in the background.

For Law Enforcement
  • No! Officers complete their reports throughout their shift as normal. knowtifyED works in the background to pick up qualifying events and notify the school if a student was impacted. No checkbox. No comment in the narrative. No app. Officers can focus on managing the incident, and knowtifyED handles the rest.

  • No! We work with incident-level data in conjunction with school district data to determine if a student was impacted by an incident. We don’t use juvenile data at all.

  • No! We do not have direct access to your servers or databases. We work with your IT to ensure data is coming out, not in. The data is limited to the few key pieces of incident data identified in the MOU, and no more.

  • Yes! All current communication protocols can and should continue. knowtifyED is not an “either/or,” but an additional layer of information to ensure children get the support their need at school.
